45 lubrication-free and maintenance-free igus® products in a racing simulator

Space-saving and easy to transport

The seat allows the user, whether adult or child, to adjust the seat position, pedal position and monitors to suit the racing event, whether it is Formula 1, karting, rallying or any other racing sport. Due to its mobility, the seat can be easily taken along and set up for competitions or training sessions at racetracks, trade shows or events. The entire system can be folded up in seconds and stowed away to save space when not in use. Drivers can adjust the seat individually to their size and install up to four monitors directly on the seat and simulate racetracks.

Problem

All adjustments in the racing simulator should be lubrication-free, clean, easy to use and have a long service life. Since the simulators are used in a wide variety of locations around the world, the components should be as light as possible for transport purposes, be quick and easy to remove and not require any maintenance.

Solution

An SHT linear module was used for the seat adjustment in combination with a stepper motor and a D1 dryve controller, which allows the user to bring the seat exactly into the desired position. Another SHT linear module was used to adjust the height of the monitors. In addition to controlling the "Seat Mover", the seat bracket was connected to the sides of the simulator chassis, where two drylin® W linear rails WS 20-80 were mounted on each side. The seat angle can be adjusted via a frame made by Greaves 3D Engineering with various iglidur® GTM, GSM and GSM bearings. A large number of drylin® W linear guides were used to enable assembly, adjustment up and down, back and forth as well as folding for transport. By installation on a linear module SHT, all four monitors can be adjusted vertically together with one handle. The complete cable management is secured by igus® e-chain systems.
