Electric motors

Automation with stepper motors, direct current motors and EC/BLDC motors

For linear axes and handling systems, igus® offers a wide range of electric motors. Hybrid stepper motors or DC motors are used in lead screw drives, toothed belts and rack and pinion drives.
The electric motors complete igus®'s offer of automation technology. That way, entire handling systems can be configured in combination with linear axes.

Configurators to find the right electric motor for your application

Ensuring you have the right motor to power your linear sytem is crucial.

We have designed configurators to help with these decisions.

In a few simple steps you can find the best motor for your application based on the critera and details you provide.

Find the right motor for you

What is a motor control system and how do I know which one I need?

A motor control system is an essential part in automation. The motor controllers are used to operate the electric motors to create movement. These devices work in conjunction with a switchboard or multiple switchboards which controls the movement and powers the motor.

We have a range of motor control systems which work with different motors; such as stepper motors, direct current motors and DC motors. These control systems can pre determine travel, positions, speeds and operating times. You can click here for more inforrmation on the motor control systems

A few example combinations: using the stepper motor D1 via a control system that is based on a web interface or the D3 DC motor control system, both make it possible to easily control linear systems. The systems are simple and offer intuitive user interface as well as being compatible with many industrial control systems.
We also offer free sample programs with each of the motor control systems so you can try the programming software for yourself. Click here for more information on the sample programs

How are you powering your system?

We have a variety of power supplies ranging from 75W up to 960W.
The drylin® power supplies for automation are suitable for all dryve motor controls. They supply output currents in order to be able to operate the entire igus® motor series. The 24V output voltage is typically used to supply stepper and DC-motors, as well as EC/BLDC motors.
The complete automation machine including the main control such as PLC (programmable logic controller) or IPC (industrial PC) can also be supplied.
The 48V power supplies are recommended for higher speeds with stepper or EC/BLDC motors. The power supplies are installed in the control cabinet on a DIN rail (TS-35).
To ensure safe operation, protective functions such as overload, overvoltage and overtemperature have been integrated.

We can help you decide which is the best option so please get in touch!

Frequently asked questions

How does an electric motor work?

An electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy through electromagnetic forces, causing a rotor to spin within a magnetic field.

How to test an electric motor

You can apply voltage to the motor to see if it spins freely, checking for abnormal noises, and ensuring it operates within specifications. Contact our experts for more information.

What are the different types of electric motors?

igus® provide a variety of motors:

  •  EC/BLDC motors
  •  DC (direct current) motors
  • Stepper motors

These are designed for a variety of purposes that allow entire handling systems to be configured.
