Swarf-resistant energy chains for welding equipment on a pipe-laying vessel

e-tube series protects cables from hot flying swarf and allows safe gliding movement

Pipe-laying and welding equipment inside a pipe-laying vessel are supplied with E4.1 series energy chains. The e-tube series used for this purpose has been specifically developed to protect cables from damage caused by hot swarf. Their especially good gliding properties, especially for long travels, make them particularly well suited to longitudinal crane travel in the interior of a ship.

Profile

  • What was needed: E4.1 series energy chains in a swarf-resistant e-tube design
  • Requirements: Safe cable guidance for welding equipment and protection against hot flying swarf
  • Industry: Offshore
  • Success for the customer: The energy tubes are absolutely swarf-resistant and allow a smooth gliding movement during welding work.

Problem

The cables for pipe-laying and welding equipment were to be guided inside this pipe-laying vessel. The platform, which is guided on rails, covers long distances and requires continuous fluid movement supported by cable guidance. But the welding work meant that the primary focus was on the absolute safety of the cables inside, which had to be protected against hot flying swarf.

Solution

Because of the welding work on the platform, only closed cable guidance was possible. More precisely, work surface movement is supported by an E4.1 series energy chain in a fully enclosed e-tube system design.
Special feature: The lightweight plastic energy chain easily withstands the high temperatures of fast flying swarf, and the cables are always protected. The system's particularly good gliding properties also ensure smooth movement. This advantage is particularly noticeable on the long travels during longitudinal movement of cranes in the ship's interior.
