One year long test convinces the customer about xiros®

Go to CONTAG AG: In order to carry electronic components, a printed circuit board (PCB) is required. The CONTAG AG is a manufacturer of high quality printed circuit boards for the electronics industry. Deburring is necessary to remove the razor-sharp edges created during production. This eliminates the risk of injury during further use of the circuit boards.  

Problem

The CONTAG AG was looking for a suitable ball bearing for the bearing of rollers in their deburring machine for printed circuit boards, which would withstand thedamp environment for a long time and which would also be wear resistant. In addition, the ball bearing was only allowed to have a minimal bearing clearance at the end of the test. For this, the company tested xiros plastic ball bearings from igus and their metallic counterpart in a one-year comparison test.

Solution

After one year, xiros ball bearings achieved a good result in terms of service life compared to metal ball bearings. The metallic bearing variant, which had to be completely degreased, corroded quite quickly due to the humid environment, became stuck and finally failed. With the xiros ball bearings, hardly any differences in wear and clearance situation could be detected after the end of the test. The plant was completely converted to polymer ball bearings.
