xiros® slewing ring ball bearings

The dirt-resistant slewing rings from igus® are suitable for carrying axial loads despite their low net weight. In particular in the food and chemical industry, the installed components are persistently contaminated on a daily basis.
The freedom from lubrication and the open architecture of the slewing ring ball bearings make it easy to flush the ball bearings without loss of quality.

Whether slewing ring ball bearings with stainless steel balls or balls made of glass: igus offers you cost-effective and FDA-compliant alternatives to metal solutions - from the smallest to diameters in XXL format.

Largest slewing ring ball bearing by igus® for loads of up to 500kg

Special customer requests and wishes are often the driving force for innovations at igus®. One example of this is the largest slewing ring ball bearing in the world by igus®. It has 400 millimetre inner diameter, 600 millimetre outer diameter and is 40 millimetre high, and was constructed on the basis of a customer request in the chemical material flow industry. xiros® stands for dry operating plastic ball bearings, which are characterised by their freedom from maintenance and low friction. For example, a load of 250 kilograms can be rotated with the XXL slewing ring bearing with a low drive torque of 15 newton metres. By dispensing with lubricants and due to the open design of the slewing ring ball bearing mounted on ball bearings, the customer can flush the bearings daily.

Slewing ring ball bearings: functionality, advantages and areas of application

Slewing ring ball bearings belong to the family of ball bearings and are high-precision mechanical components that enable smooth rotary movement and transmission of forces. They are used in a wide range of applications and offer maximum efficiency and flexibility for mechanical systems.

The functionality of slewing ring ball bearings is based on an inner race, an outer race and a row of balls in between. These balls serve as rolling elements and enable a rotary movement between the rings. Thanks to their special design, slewing ring ball bearings are able to absorb high loads while minimising friction losses. This leads to an extremely efficient transmission of forces.

The advantages of slewing ring ball bearings are manifold. They primarily enable a rotary movement with minimal friction. This is particularly important in machines and systems where precision plays a decisive role. Secondly, slewing ring ball bearings can absorb large axial and radial loads, which is ideal for applications with high loads.

In addition, slewing ring ball bearings have a compact design and are lightweight, which saves space and optimises weight.
Ball bearing slewing rings can be used in a wide range of applications. In robotics, they are used in joints to perform precise movements and enable positioning. In aerospace engineering, they are used in swivelling tables and joints to align antennas, cameras and sensors. Slewing ring ball bearings are also used in medical technology in medical devices. Other areas of application include the packaging industry, semiconductor production, machine tools and many more.

When selecting slewing ring ball bearings, certain aspects should not be ignored. These include the required load capacity, the desired accuracy, the operating environment (such as temperature, corrosion and dust) as well as the installation and maintenance requirements. It is important to choose the right size and design of ball bearing slewing ring according to the specific requirements of the application. We can help you with this.
