No lubrication or maintenance -
plain bearings for an electric rubbish bin

  • What was needed: plain bearings for an electric rubbish bin
  • Manufacturing process: injection moulding
  • Requirements: durable, dirt-resistant, lightweight, no lubricants
  • Material: iglidur® G
  • Industry: urban development
  • Success through collaboration: Fast delivery, cost-effective manufacture of customer-specific functional components
Finbin, a Finnish company, is developing a rubbish bin that compacts waste with solar energy. The unique system greatly reduces both operating costs and the ecological footprint. The patented technology ensures that waste is compressed at a ratio of 6:1. Another advantage is that
the intelligent rubbish bin autonomously notifies the waste management system of its fill level. The bin functions as an independent unit for public use.

igubal® application example: electric rubbish bin The electric rubbish bin must be durable and require no maintenance.

Problem

The bin functions as an independent unit for public use and is constantly exposed to weather. Its components must therefore be maintenance-free, as must the entire unit.

Solution

In the clamping rods, the engineers use polymer plain bearings, and for the hatch, pedal, and pedal transmission rods, they use the iglidur® G tribo-plastic. The bearings work without external lubricant and are insensitive to dust and dirt.
