In this application, various knives are checked for their sharpness after the production and grinding process. Using a piece of paper to be cut, any differences in sharpness are determined with constant pressure on the blade. It is important that the robot runs smoothly and quietly.
The problem
Due to the different shapes and cutting edges of knives, the robot has to execute predefined movement sequences so that a 90° angle to the paper is maintained even with curved blades. This is the only way that a comparable test (and thus a consistent product quality) can take place between different knives.
The solution
The robolink RL-DP with four axes in combination with a holding device for the knives was the optimal approach here.
With its four axes, the articulated arm robot manages to feed different knife shapes to the same test station and to enable a consistent measurement.
